How to Patch a Pool
There are many methods to repair a pool. The best is to buy a specialist repair kit and swim in it. Apply the patch underwater by squeezing water bubbles. This process could take several hours depending on how large the hole is. You can also purchase PLUGZIT, which is a special patching kit.
PLUGZIT
One of the most effective ways to patch a pool is with a Peel-and-Stick Patch. These patches are specifically made for pools. They are pre-cut into neat circular shapes so that the patch will fit better. They are an excellent choice for small punctures, as they are very affordable. The PlugZit patch is easy to apply. It includes a large section of liner and a special adhesive vinyl. Some patches even include blue vinyl.
PLUGZIT is designed for instant patching of holes. It doesn’t require tools or cleaning. PLUGZITs are more durable than other pool patching products and are recommended for 2-pack purchases. The PlugZit can be used to install the Patch. Simply insert the PlugZit into the hole from the bottom, attach the Washer on the outside, and close the Seal Cap. The Patch will make your pool watertight for the rest your life.
Peel-and-stick
Peel-and-stick pool patching can be used to repair a pool’s vinyl liner. It is quick and easy. Patches can be applied above or below the water line and are nearly invisible once applied. These adhesive-backed patches have solvent-free adhesive that bonds to virtually any type of vinyl and inflatable. These patches come in precut zip-lock packaging that makes it easy to use for retail applications and service.
Another option is to use waterproof tape. This tape is similar to duct tape, but is UV resistant and cheap. This tape can be used in and out of water and can be stretched to cover larger areas. The downside is that waterproof tape can begin to peel from the edges, which can be frustrating for those with vinyl pool liners. For large holes or small punctures or rips in the pool liner material, peel-and-stick pool patching is possible. Inflatable toys can also benefit from peel-and-stick pool repair.
Flexible vinyl pool liner
A vinyl pool liner patched with vinyl is waterproof but not permanent. The patch should be cut to a minimum of 2 inches from the edge. Repeat this process as often as needed, but be sure to let the patch cure before you apply another one.
Leaky vinyl pool liners are the most common type of leaks that can be repaired. The extent of the leak and the location will affect the success of any repair. Multiple leaks caused by animal damage or ice may require replacement of the liner. Multiple leaks may need to be repaired by a pool store. If you notice multiple leaks, it may be time to replace the liner.
Underwater pool repair kits
The best option for small punctures or tears is an underwater pool repair kit. The adhesive in these kits is waterproof, and it sticks better if you use it right away. Simply fold the half-sheet in half, glue side down, and place it in the water. Fold it in half and press down. If it doesn’t stick well, you can always try applying a new patch.
First, prepare the area you will be patching. Apply the patch to the area if the tear is on inflatable vinyl or light gauge vinyl. Then, wait 24 hours for the patch to dry. These kits require that you wear a face mask and gloves. While working underwater, you should also use eye and facial protection. You should use a face mask when working with the adhesive.
